Why Are We Even Arguing About This?
Wahl (german) – choice
The other day I posted a link to a video on my Facebook. It was a video of Kirk Cameron (from “Growing Pains”) talking about his views on abortion. Mike Seaver said in an interview with Piers Morgan when asked about his view on abortion: “I think that it’s wrong. Under any circumstances. I think that someone who is ultimately willing to murder a child, even to fix another tragic and devastating situation, like rape or incest or things like that, is not taking the moral high road. I think that we’re compounding the problem by also murdering a little child.” The father of six also says if his daughter got raped and pregnant, he would tell her that she had to have the child and he would tell her that he would help her.
What. The. Fuck, Kirk Cameron!?
First of all, you are a MAN. Last time I checked, men didn’t have children. So what in the world makes you think that you should have ANY say in what a woman should do with her body? Let me tell you what I think. I think you need to keep your nose out of other people’s business, especially out of my uterus. Or any uterus for that matter.
Well, after posting the video, I got some comments by friends who agree with my pro-choice views (yay for my friends!) But there were also some comments by pro-lifers.
Now listen. If YOU are pro-life and say YOU would never have an abortion, that’s totally fine. You are free to do whatever you want or don’t want to do. However, if you’re trying to tell me that I’m a bad person, because I think a woman should have a CHOICE, that’s messed up. YOU have the choice to not have an abortion, so another woman should have the choice to have an abortion.
End of story.
But it’s not that simple, unfortunately. The pro-choice vs. pro-life comments went back and forth, and of course no one could agree on anything. We don’t have to agree on this. But I want the pro-life peeps to understand that being pro-choice does NOT mean pr-death.
I don’t think abortion should be used as contraception. Yes, shit happens. There are accidents and emergencies. But you shouldn’t have an abortion because you don’t like birth control. Or because you’re too lazy to use it.
But let me tell you this. If some dirty scumbag forces himself on a woman and she gets pregnant, it shouldn’t even be a question whether or not she can choose to abort the cells that are growing inside of her. And yes, I said cells. Not baby. So sue me.
I feel sorry for every woman whose husband/father/boyfriend tells her that she HAS to have her rapist’s child. Why? Because it’s FUCKED UP! No one should be able to tell a woman what to do or not to do with her body. And honestly, a man may be saying this now, but I doubt that actually many men out there would happily support their wives for 9 months when they’re carrying the child of her rapists.
What would this do to the woman? How would she feel if she was forced to carry a child by someone who violated her in the worst possible way?
It’s not about killing, you guys. Not about revenge. Not about some fucking moral high road. It’s about CHOICE.
It makes me sad to know that there are people in my generation (and younger!) who think anyone should be able to take away a choice from women.
Kirk Cameron, stay out of our business. Thank you.
I could go on and on. But I won’t.
